How
long does a special headpiece order take?
Special
headpiece orders take 2-4 weeks depending on how busy we are and what you have in
mind. An original design made just for you may
take up to 4 weeks.
What
are glass pearls?
Imitation
pearls made of glass usually come from Europe or
Japan. They are a nice alternative to real
pearls since they have a similar weight and
lustre. They are a world apart from
plastic pearls, and are much more expensive.
We offer creamy white, ivory, dove gray, rum pink,
blush pink, cafe lavender, and black Tahiti glass pearls.
Can
I substitute real pearls for glass?
In
some designs yes. We use freshwater pearls in
round and oval shapes. Please inquire.
What
is rhodium?
Rhodium
is a metal in the platinum group and is 6-7 times
more costly than gold. Many of our tiaras are
plated in rhodium. It will not tarnish, and
does not react well with other elements, therefore
it is very durable. This is the preferred
metal for fine costume jewelry.
Will
silver tarnish? How do I protect it?
Silver
will tarnish. It is best to store your
sterling silver or silver plated tiara in silver
cloth available at jewelers and some fabric
stores. If that is unavailable wrap several
times in regular kitchen plastic wrap and place in a
Ziploc bag. Do not use
rubber bands over the plastic! They react with
silver and create permanent marks.
What
are Swarovski crystals?
Swarovski
crystals are manufactured by the Daniel Swarovski
Company and are world renowned for their
brilliance and precision. Swarovski, a family
owned business, produces their own line of
products as well as providing loose stones and
components to designers in the art and fashion
world. A trip to the factory in Austria is a
truly memorable experience. No pictures
allowed though--everything is top
secret!
What
is the difference between rhinestones and crystals?
Rhinestones
are crystals with a metallic finish applied to the
back so the front side has a mirror -like
appearance. The most common color is silver,
and these appear silvery-crystal in color. They are
also available in other colors such as peridot,
jonquil, sapphire and many more. So a
rhinestone starts out as a crystal; we use
Swarovski rhinestones in a wide range of colors.
Are
crystals available in colors?
Crystals
are available in colors. We use Swarovski
crystals--they produce the most astounding array of
colors, nearly 100 different colors now. We
don't stock them all, and not all colors are
available in all shapes, so please inquire regarding
crystal color. Please see our Color
Chart page.
What
is Aurora Borealis?
Aurora
Borealis refers to the coating applied to some
crystals and rhinestones which has a multi-colored
rainbow effect. This is particularly beautiful
when applied to colored crystals.
How
do I keep my headpiece on?
Our
headpieces come with combs, and bobby pin loops or
both. You can ask for additional
attachment points if you feel it is
necessary. For thin or fine hair, we recommend
making a pin curl of hair about 1 1/2" in
diameter, and securing it with two bobby pins in an
"X". Then, slide the comb into the
front of the curl, and your pin curl will serve as
an anchor.
Will
hairspray damage my headpiece?
Hairspray
is not good for your headpiece, and body oil from
your fingertips isn't either. Please clean
your headpiece very gently with warm water, a little
mild soap, and pat, don't rub dry. Let air-dry
completely before storing. If your headpiece has
ceramic flowers, please don't get them wet.
Are veils
in stock?
Many
styles are in stock, please see our Veils
section for our current selection veils available
today.
How long
does a special order take?
Special
order veils usually take about 2-3 weeks.
What are
veils made of?
Most
of our veils are made of nylon bridal illusion,
sometimes called tulle. Illusion comes in
different grades, and we use the top grade. We
also make veils in English net, French voile, and
silk chiffon.
How do I
measure myself to order a veil?
Have
a friend help you. Start at the top of your
head and measure down to where you want your veil to
end. If you are ordering a cathedral veil, it
is best if you are wearing the dress. Hold the
tape measure loosely. Add about 4 inches to
allow for the flow of the fabric and shortening that
occurs when the veil is gathered and sewn. It is
important to add this extra amount, or your veil may
be too short.
Can
I order any veil length I want?
You
can order any length you want. Please visit Made
to Measure Veils.
How long
should my cathedral veil be?
Cathedral
veils generally look best if they extend 2-3 inches
beyond the hem of your dress.
What
color is diamond white?
Diamond
white is an off white color which works well with
silk dresses. It is not ivory, nor is it a
bright white.
What is a
blusher?
A
blusher is the veil that covers your face during the
ceremony.
How do I
keep my veil on?
Most
veils are attached to a comb, to the headpiece, or
are attached to the headpiece with Velcro.
Are
veil decorations sewed on?
Decorations
may be sewn or glued depending on the veiling and
the decoration. Pearls and rhinestones are not
sewn directly to the veiling as this tends to tear
the fabric. Decorations may be sewn to lace
trims and borders.
